What's driver Inrush Current

The surge in Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) in led driver supply has evolved because of the need to drop precise currents into the LEDs to ensure long life.

However, the unfavorable side effect is the inrush current.

Most led light power supply use capacitors to smooth the ripple in the led power supply because LEDs don't like ripple.

When these capacitors are completely depleted, they require a large amount of instantaneous energy to charge them to their maximum capacity.

Therefore, when you turn on the LEDs that are consumed under normal operating conditions to less than one amp, you may pass up to 30 amps or more through your switch in less than a second. High quality drives use additional circuitry to minimize this effect.

Although the loading time is very short, it has a cumulative effect. Several LED switches a few times (multiplied by 30 amps) can cause short circuits and damage switches.

Even a single LED with a surge current of 30A is likely to permanently illuminate the contacts of a poor quality light switch.

If you don't know this, it will drive you crazy because the circuit breaker won't trip every time, and the electrician may not find anything that is electrically "wrong" with your home/business until it becomes more visible malfunction.

LED drivers are increasingly having built-in "soft-start" circuits to avoid this surge.

Advice: Choosing a well-known LED manufacturer to provide a high quality drive is most likely to provide you with a well-designed circuit to help avoid this problem by limiting the inrush current.

All led switching power supply will flow in, but how you manage it depends on whether you have good installation experience. There are special circuit breakers with better contacts, etc., which help to resolve the effects of influx and should be investigated if these problems are discovered.

Keep in mind that this is a cumulative effect and the damage can take a long time to appear. Pls find out if the manufacturer has designed power led driver for this issue and made an informed decision.
